Business IT Alignment
Provide the right information to the right person at the right time, or in other words make sure that the business functions are effectively and efficiently supported by the IT-systems.
This optimization program focuses on the formulation of the information needs and requirements related to the activities and processes of the company. As such, it will define which information is required to enable effective and efficient processes and who will need this information at what time.
The goal is to optimize the alignment between business and IT-systems, ensuring that the available IT-systems provide the information to the business in such way that the correct, accurate and complete information is provided to the right actor at the right moment.
This is accomplished by focusing on the demand-perspective of IT-system development by specifying which information and application support is required for the business functions and by defining the environment and the related interaction rules for which an IT-system is developed.
This program will deliver an overview and specification of the required information, the information objects, the attributes of the business objects and of the input- and output-services of the IT-systems.
This program will not deliver any technological aspects of the IT-systems, i.e. no software nor hardware.
When to use
When new IT-systems need to be developed to support (new) business processes and when existing IT-systems do not provide the information and support functionality needed by the business.
Return on Investment
Studies indicate that problems related to business process alignment and requirements management are major causal factors for failure of IT-projects. This indicates that an appropriate mapping and management of IT requirements is fundamental for successful IT projects.
